Headlight Customisation and Road Rules: What to Check First

Headlight customisation can improve appearance and performance, but lighting is safety equipment. A change that looks minor can affect glare, colour, aim, electrical behaviour or compliance.

Start With the Light Function

Identify whether the product is a headlight, DRL, position light, indicator, fog light or auxiliary driving light. Each function has different expectations for colour, intensity and use.

Beam Aim and Cutoff

Any upgrade must preserve a safe beam pattern. If the cutoff becomes blurred or the beam sits too high, other drivers can be dazzled. This is especially important when changing light source type inside an existing housing.

Colour and Styling

Modern LED styling can blur the line between decorative lighting and functional lamps. Road-use lighting should use the appropriate colour and switching behaviour for its function.

Documentation and Markings

Look for specific claims and supporting information. Broad phrases like “street legal” are less useful than product-specific marking, function and market guidance.

HIBANA Customisation Checklist

  • Confirm the exact vehicle and fitment.
  • Check intended use and market language.
  • Aim the beam after installation.
  • Inspect wiring and connector security.
  • Keep the upgrade aligned with safety, not just appearance.
